SUDAN LEADER OMAR AL BASHIR ESCAPES FROM SA
The Sudanese leader Omar al-Bashir wanted by the ICC to face trial at the Hague is said to be on the run following fears of arrest.
A High Court in Pretoria, South Africa was due to decide his handing over to the International Criminal Court which had hitherto charged him for crimes.
Mr. Bashir arrived South Africa along with other African leaders to attend the African Union Summit which is scheduled to hold there. It will be recalled that on Sunday, a judge barred Mr. Bashir from leaving South Africa till the arrest application had been considered. The Sudanese President is accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity as well as genocide in the execution of the war in Dafur.
The United Nations alleges that about 300,000 people died in the conflict and about two million others have fled their homes since hostilities began in 2003.
