POLICE IS THE LEAST CORRUPT INSTITUTION IN NIGERIA SAYS IG OF POLICE
The Inspector General of Police IGP Solomon Arase has declared that the Nigeria Police has the least corrupt officers of all institutions in Nigeria. Even as the Police determined to follow up corrupt cases before it in accordance with provisions of the constitution.
The Inspector General of Police was speaking at the annual symposium during a feast organised by the National Association of Seadogs. The IG noted that the Police has made frantic efforts in tackling corruption among officers and had set up a machinery to fish out corrupt officers in the force.
The IGP who was represented by the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police Mr. Wilson Inalegwu said that the practical steps to deal with corruption was to dismantle road blocks by the Police as well as the establishment of monitoring Teams across the country to ensure compliance.
In his words, the IG said ' he is allergic to corruption and has since taken practical steps to deal with the issue of corruption...'
In a paper entitled ; A New Dawn in Nigeria : Practical steps to eradicate corruption, Mr. Paul Erokoro SAN said the fight against corruption in Nigeria will not yield any good results with corrupt leaders on the saddle. He suggested that it should be made compulsory for every public officer to declare his or her assets publicly as a way to tackle corruption. Mr. Erokoro noted that everybody in the country has been part of the corruption menace in the past and had remained part of it at the present time, stressing that hardly any public officer live entirely by his or her salary.
